PETITION TO OPPOSE I STREET, HAVERHILL, MA, AS ACCESS FOR THE 931 BOSTON ROAD DEVELOPMENT
O problema
TO: Haverhill, MA Planning Board Members
TO: Haverhill, MA City Council Members
TO: Haverhill, MA Zoning Commission, Board of Appeals
We, the undersigned residents and homeowners of the I Street, Bradford, MA neighborhood formally submit this petition to oppose any development plans that utilize I Street as an entrance, exit, or construction access points for the proposed 931 Boston Road development project.
We ask and politely demand an alternative access route using Route 125 and/or Boston Road.
THE NEGATIVE IMPACTS I STREET AND ITS RESIDENTS WILL SUFFER ARE AS FOLLOWS:
· Altering the site’s density by forcing High-Density Development into an undersized property, intensely building two single-family homes and six duplex residential units.
· Property is zoned CH and was our understanding from previous discussions when property changed hands that any access would have to be via Route 125 or thru Cedardale.
· Negatively impacts the existing residents expected to face significant short-term and long-term overall hardships to our daily quality of life
o By Introducing construction disruptions, heavy traffic, noise pollution for WFH residents and families with young children.
· Excessive traffic volume; projects at the least, double the present amount of vehicles using this road once dwellings are occupied.
· Overflow with extra cars. Development residents and guests may park on I Street, taking pre-existing residents’ parking areas and reduce parking availability and delivery or service vehicles will frequently use existing private driveways to turn around.
· I Street is a short and narrow dead end road, added volume of cars accelerates the physical wear and tear on the road's surface.
· Neighborhood Impact: Excavators, bulldozers, and dump trucks create the most heavy-equipment noise and interruptions to residents’ parking, work-from-home, and childcare.
· Road Capacity:
o Heavier construction equipment and large trucks used during the development phase can crack pipes, damage and tear up asphalt and residents’ properties, damage the existing trees, prevent residents from parking on the street.
o Building a new housing development on a small, dead-end road creates friction as
I Street lacks the infrastructure to handle a sudden surge in traffic and density, traffic congestion, limited access for emergency vehicles, and safety hazards for residents.
o Not meeting minimum road width standards for two-way traffic or emergency trucks which causes more concern and becomes dangerous during the winter snow season.
· Safety hazards for children:
o Playing in the road in front of their homes, pedestrians and pets.
o Lack of sidewalks
o School bus pickup at end of I Street
· Development’s snow removal - no place on I Street to push/ put the snow, and causes hardships on
pre-existing residents. .
· Private development trash pick-up via I Street-concerns
