Thank you again for signing our petition urging the parole board and Governor Newsom to keep Jose Gonzalez in prison for the brutal murders of Essie and James Effron.  If you sent a letter to the governor, thank you for that as well.

As we reported in our previous updates, on April 8 a panel of two commissioners from the Board of Parole Hearings granted parole to Gonzalez.  That started a 120-day period for the full Board to reverse the panel's action.  After that, the governor will have 30 days to affirm, modify or reverse the Board's decision.

We have not as yet found out if the Board has taken action and sent Gonzalez's file to Governor Newsom for his review.  We will post a further update after the governor has made his decision.
