Petition for Judicial Review and Accountability in the Case of Brittany Whitman

Case No. 2026-260547FY-FY

We, the undersigned, respectfully urge the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, Waterford’s 51st District Court, and the Oakland County Courts to give this case the careful and thorough review it deserves. We ask that all available evidence be fully considered and that every lawful action necessary be taken to protect the community, hold the appropriate parties accountable, and ensure justice for Brittany Whitman and her family.

The day after Easter, Brittany Whitman was found deceased in Detroit from a gunshot wound to the head. Initially, her death was ruled a suicide. However, investigators continued their investigation after evidence raised additional questions regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to the police investigation and court proceedings, investigators later searched Brittany's Waterford home and documented evidence including blood, bullet holes, and surveillance video from cameras located inside and outside the residence.

According to the police report, the surveillance footage allegedly shows Brittany's former boyfriend, Alexander Peters, waiting outside her home before attacking her as she entered. The report further alleges that Brittany was subjected to a prolonged and violent assault, including repeated physical violence, strangulation, threats to her life, and acts of sexual violence. These allegations are documented in the police investigation and remain subject to the judicial process.

The evidence described in the investigation represents allegations of an extremely serious and violent offense. Our family and community are asking that the severity of this case be fully recognized and that all evidence be carefully considered as this matter moves forward.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations and the evidence described by investigators, the defendant was granted a personal bond. This decision has left Brittany's family, friends, and members of the community deeply concerned about public safety and whether the current legal response reflects the severity of the allegations.

We respectfully ask the appropriate authorities to:

  • Thoroughly review all available evidence in this case.
  • Ensure that the severity of the allegations and the evidence presented are fully considered.
  • Pursue every charge that is supported by the evidence and applicable law.
  • Reconsider whether the current bond appropriately reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the safety of the community.
  • Allow this case to proceed through the appropriate legal process, including review and consideration by Oakland County Circuit Court if supported by the evidence and applicable law.

This petition is not intended to determine guilt or innocence. That responsibility belongs to the courts. Rather, this is a request that the justice system fully acknowledge the seriousness of the allegations, carefully consider the evidence gathered during the investigation, and ensure that appropriate legal action is taken.

Brittany was a daughter, a mother, a friend, and a loved one. Most importantly, she was the mother of two young children who now face life without her. Her family deserves confidence that every piece of evidence will be thoroughly reviewed and that every lawful avenue for justice will be pursued.

By signing this petition, you are respectfully urging the Prosecutor’s Office, the Court, and Judges Kuhn, Hatty, and Fox to recognize the extraordinary severity of this case, thoroughly review the evidence, reconsider the defendant’s current bond status in Case No. 2026-260547FY-FY, and ensure that all charges supported by the evidence and applicable law are fully pursued.
