The Brimbank Solidarity Group celebrate the Brimbank Council’s historic and unanimous Pro-Palestine motion.
Over months we have lobbied, gathered support and mobilised our community to exert pressure for a robust, Pro-Palestine motion during the council’s first meeting for 2024.
The Brimbank Council heard our calls for a strong motion. During our meeting, Cr Jasmine Nguyen reinforced Cr Virginia Tachos’ Ceasefire in Gaza Notice of Motion with powerful amendments, addressing the siege in Gaza, Israeli War Crimes, the Occupied Territory of Gaza, humanitarian violations and atrocities committed by Israel, illegal occupation and apartheid.
Cr Jae Papalia seconded the amendments with equally strong words. We appreciate and celebrate the determination of the three Councillors involved.
The community vocally endorsed the amendments and the powerful words shared by the Councillors during the meeting resulting in unanimous approval with no councillors voting or speaking against the amended motion.
The motion’s strength lays the groundwork for future collaboration with the Council on initiatives like divestment and raising the Palestinian Flag.
Thank you to everyone who supported our actions and work to get here. A Powerful motion is a result of our collective work and unwavering dedication as a community.
We are so proud to be Brimbank residents.
