Now and Then is finally releasing! The “last Beatles song” will be out Thursday, November 2nd as a single packaged with Love Me Do. It is very poetic, considering their first single is packaged with their last. The day before, November 1st, a 12-minute documentary about the song’s history and creation will air on BBC, YouTube(?), and Disney+. On November 3rd, a music video for the song directed by Get Back director Peter Jackson will premiere online. And to round everything out on November 10th, Now and Then will be packaged with expanded versions of the Red Album and the Blue Album, also featuring past Beatles songs being remastered by Giles Martin for the first time. It’s a very strange idea to take in that we are alive to witness the release a new Beatles song, which would be borderline unthinkable if not for the MAL technology that made John Lennon’s home demo on a cassette tape workable. Some journalists from Rolling Stone magazine and other sources have spoken about the track after hearing it early, claiming it to be powerful and haunting. Continued work on this track seemingly began in early 2022, after Get Back was released. It makes me wonder if by any chance, someone involved in its production actually read this. I have my doubts that Paul, Ringo, Giles, Olivia, or Sean saw this petition. However, I like to think that to some degree, we helped with show the demand for the project. With this release fast approaching, I feel that we have accomplished what we set out to campaign for.
