Hello Petition Supporters,

My name is Alexandra, and I'm on the Civic Engagement team at Change.org. Our team works to connect petition starters and supporters with the public officials who have the power to act on the issues you care about. I spoke with an official in the Office of the Governor regarding this petition. They shared that the office is not able to make a formal public statement at this time, but directed me to recent legislative action that aligns with the goals of this petition.

Specifically, they pointed to SB 5855, sponsored by Senator Javier Valdez, which has passed through the Washington State Senate. This bill would bar law enforcement—including federal agents such as ICE—from wearing face coverings while on duty, a measure aimed at increasing transparency and accountability. These protections directly reflect concerns raised by petition supporters about anonymous enforcement and public safety.
