60 MPs have signed an open letter supporting the campaign for birthing partners to be allowed in scans and all stages of labour! This is a huge moment in the campaign! If you can spend a couple of minutes sending an email to your MP, we can get even more MPs on board and ensure that pregnant women across the country don’t have to go through this alone. Here’s what you can do:
First: Click here to find out who your MP is and what their email address is
Then: Email them asking them to support Alicia Kearns MP’s open letter that calls for birth partners to be allowed in to all scans and all stages of labour, and if they already have then to help lobby their local NHS trust to make sure this happens. Feel free to write your own text or use this template:
Dear MP xxx
I am one of over 400,000 people across the country who has signed the change.org/ButNotMaternity petition calling for birthing partners to be allowed in during pregnancy scans and all stages of labour. The current restrictions are causing an incredible amount of anxiety and distress to pregnant women across the country and their partners. At a time when pubs, shops and restaurants are open, we must urgently find a way to let pregnant women get the support they need.
As my elected representative, I am calling on you to do the following
- Contact Alicia Kearns MP and lend your support to her open letter which calls for birth partners to be able to attend all scans and all stages of labour
- Contact your local NHS trust to urge them to allow birth partners in for all scans and all stages of labour
Thank you
