Today I submitted a complaint to the Tasmanian Integritry Commission suggesting that a senior child protection worker breached confidentiality of the act and were not held accountable as any other public sector employee would be. This is criminal and made even worse as the child protection worker had expert knowledge of the Child & Young Persons Act. Today I also made a complaint to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency against a psychologist who produced a very poor report that did not meet APS standards. In fact a second year psychology student could have done it just as well. I'm constantly amazed at the lack of transparency and sluggishness dealing with Child Protection Services. It is not surprising that psychologists, police and magistrates complain about child protection practice. I'm amazed that the ABC Hobart has more interest in a single fruit fly than a single child in protection. Most media people I speak to explain how constrained they are dealing with child protection cases. We are dealing with the future of country, our children that must be dealt with in a timely manner in the same way our schools do. Why should our children miss wonderful windows of opportunity because the adults and bureaucrats can't get organized and our courts are clogged? Why is it reasonable that Child Protection Workers who work with children aren't subject to external professional standards like any other important profession? Sure they've got a tough job to do but where's the accountability dealing with the best interests of our children? Get Child Protection Workers registered!!
