One Drop Can Kill: Add a Pet Safety Warning to Minoxidil
O problema
Minoxidil Is Toxic to Pets — We Need a Warning on the Label
Many people use minoxidil as a treatment for hair loss — but what most don’t know is that this product is extremely toxic to animals, especially cats and dogs. Even small amounts can cause severe poisoning and, in many cases, lead to death.
I found this out almost by accident, while reading stories from people who lost their pets because minoxidil had been applied — and animals came into contact with just a few drops on the couch, the floor, or even their owner’s lap.

What’s most alarming is that none of these brands — not even the most well-known ones like Kirkland, Rogaine, or generics — include any kind of warning about this on their labels.
You could be using the product and not realize the risk. And your pet certainly doesn’t.
That’s why I’m launching this petition: to urge companies that manufacture and distribute minoxidil to add clear, visible warnings about its dangers to animals on their packaging and product inserts.
This information can save lives. A simple label or note in the instructions could prevent avoidable tragedies.
What we’re asking for:
- A visible, prominent warning on all topical or oral minoxidil products about the risk to pets.
- Clear information about the potential toxicity to animals, especially cats and dogs.
- A public commitment from manufacturers to prioritize consumer and pet safety.
Please sign and share this petition. Together, we can prevent more people from learning about this danger the hard way.
