Now more than ever, we need to step up to the plate to help those who are not able to help themselves. Addicts are not able to make rational decisions just as the mentally ill are not able to make rational decisions. Science has proven that drugs and alcohol change the make up of human brains. As a loved one of an addict, I feel like people seem to ignore the proven facts when they do not fit what they want them to. Addiction changing brain chemistry is one of these proven facts that people tend to ignore because they don’t want to believe that an illness can change the human brain this way. Well just as mental illness affects the brain so does addiction. I have seen addicts in and out of trouble in the last month that really need help but the justice system is failing them. I don’t think you can truly understand the power of addiction until you have to deal with it in your own life. Please take a stand for those who can’t stand for themselves. May GOD bless you all!
