Just as we are getting close to saving the Drew Forest, the new threat is NJ Bill S4736, introduced in the current NJ Legislature’s lame duck session. This bill has the laudable goal of promoting the construction of Affordable Housing (though can be only 20% of total units built). HOWEVER, it would allow developers to buy land from non-profit owners (schools, churches) and bypass municipal zoning and be automatically approved for high-density housing units!
The bill totally ignores the need to reduce flooding, mitigate climate change, and protect New Jersey’s dwindling open space and its over-stressed natural resources, including the Buried Valley Aquifer, for which the Drew Forest is an important recharge zone.
Please spread the word asap about this dangerous bill and contact NJ legislators. For details and a guide to action, visit our website, Friendsofthedrewforest.com.
We appreciate your support through what has been a long haul. Please help us stop this bill and reach our goal of preserving the Drew Forest!
