Dear Supporters,
Some of you have written in, called or posted on this petition your concern for the graves of your family, friends and loved ones at Christ Church Longcross if conversion into five flats goes ahead.
We recommend you email the Diocese of Guildford's property department to ask the following questions below.
You can find contact details here: https://www.cofeguildford.org.uk/about/property/property-team
1. Contact details for the developer
Request contact details for the developer, Mr Gary Humphreys, who is the prospective purchaser. It is normal practice in developments such as this for the developer to provide contact details. Besides attending the Public Drop In session in February, the developer has not provided any public contact details such as a phone number, email address or registered company name to which he is a director.
2. Contractual requirements and legal recourse
Request to seek assurances that covenants and legal requirements will be placed on the developer to ensure that full access to the graveyard is given during the construction phase and ask them what measures they are taking to ensure oversight of the building works are sensitive to the area.
Ask what happens If covenants or legal agreements are breached, what action can the Diocese take and what legal recourse do they have with the developer once the purchase has been completed?
3. Complaints process and procedure
Ask the Diocese what is the procedure to register any complaints or concerns. Ask what is the escalation process if the developer does not respond to the concern or complaint within an agreed timeframe.
4. Take photos
We suggest that you visit the Church graveyard and take a photo of the grave you are concerned for, so that you have a record of its location and current state before any potential building works start.
Regarding the planning application to convert the church into five flats, we will be sending out a newsletter in the next couple of days on how and where to object.
Kind regards on behalf of the Friends of Christ Church Longcross,
Theresa Burton
