Important: PS 20 Pre-K Petition Update
Dear Friends of PS 20 in Clinton Hill:
Thank you for signing our petition calling for more Pre-K seats at PS 20. As of today, our collective voice is 384 people strong! This is a great first step, but our work together is far from done.
Please take a few minutes to take the following actions:
1. Share this petition with your contacts and via social media.
2. Make sure to leave a comment to go along with your signature, describing why you signed this petition.
3. Send an email to the officials below. You can write your own message, or use the sample below for ideas or as a template. What’s most important is that these officials hear from as many individual families as possible.
NYC Department of Education, Office of Enrollment
ESEnrollment@schools.nyc.gov
Office of NYC Council Majority Leader Laurie A. Cumbo
jmarable@council.nyc.gov
(Mr. Jonathan Marable, Manager, Constituent Services)
Office of NYC Comptroller Scott M. Stringer

We will share the signed petition and its comments with these offices shortly. We encourage you to take the steps suggested above as soon as possible, in order to create momentum and readiness on their parts to act upon our collective request.
Thank you again for all you are doing to give Principal Barbera the best chance of having her request for more Pre-K seats approved by the DOE, and families like us the best chance to send our Pre-K students to their neighborhood school, PS 20.

Sample email to the Offices above
Dear Office of _____________:
My family is one of hundreds who have signed a petition calling for the expansion of the Pre-K program at PS 20 in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Our petition will be shared with your office shortly. This is important to my family because _________________________________________
PS 20 now has space available to expand its Pre-K program. However, dozens of families like ours--many of whom live within blocks of PS 20 and are in the school's zone--now sit on its Pre-K waitlist and have been assigned to other sites (which would require substantial travel and related potential health risks of using public transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic).
Principal Barbera of PS 20 wants more Pre-K families and has space for more students and classes. She has asked the Department of Education to allot more Pre-K seats but her requests have been denied. The Department of Education should approve this request and offer more Pre-K seats at PS 20 to meet community need.
My family greatly appreciates your attention to this issue.
Sincerely,
