I am thrilled to update you that today I met with the Minister for Roads & Road Safety, Melissa Horne, who has guaranteed funding to install pedestrian activated lights on Diamond Creek Rd.
The Victorian State Budget which was announced this week, has allocated funds to provide a safer option for pedestrians to cross Diamond Creek Road near Greenhill Rd/Avandina Cres. This will address the urgent safety concerns of our community who have signed this petition. Your voice of written comments and 4,401 signatures has demanded the Dept. of Transport take action after two serious accidents this past year involving Montmorency Secondary College students commuting home from school.
Together, through strong coordinated advocacy by Frances Ibbott, Principal at the College to raise concerns with our local Members of Parliament Vicki Ward MP and Colin Brooks MP, we have worked to advocate for our community. After receiving the petition last year and presenting it to Minister Horne, Vicki and Colin worked to jointly submit a State funding request in consultation with Banyule Council representatives and Councillor Elizabeth Nealy. Finally today we met together on site to celebrate that a funding commitment has been made.https://www.facebook.com/share/FGg3sQP59wNtK8vS/?mibextid=WC7FNe
When the traffic lights are installed, the residents of Greenhills & Apollo Parkways in Greensborough will have safer conditions to cross Diamond Creek Road, connecting our community. Details on the exact location are subject to further designs being worked through, but the funds committed will deliver a safer option for pedestrians.
Thank you to every single person who showed their support by signing this petition. Your voice has helped to make a difference to where we live. A safer crossing will affect how we move through our neighbourhood when we travel to school, to work, to sport facilities, to the library and seek access to parklands and the Plenty River Trail.
To Louise Juracich and Kass & Steve Smith - a safer option for our kids to get to school is all thanks to your support and the supporters of your families in our local community.
Some change has been made!
