Petition update

A message for the sponsors, the organizers and the contestants.

Guillermo A Castañeda, Jr.
El Paso, TX, United States

28 Jun 2015 — I was very moved today by the response from one of the sponsors. There are 51 ladies that have a dream and are being affected by Mr. Trump's remarks. I cannot tell you how deeply saddened I am to hear this. They have put in years of effort and hard work to get to where they are.

However, we are not responsible for this. This is not an attack on anybody. This is a response to Mr. Trump's remarks. He should have thought about the consequences, not only to himself, but to the people that rely on his actions.

When Marisela De Montecristo, Miss El Salvador, decided to drop out of Miss Universe because of Mr. Trump's remarks, she also expressed an immense amount of pain about dropping out. She had also put years of hard work to get to where she had. Yet, her decision was made because of a matter of principle and solidarity. J Balvin also cancelled his performance in the Miss USA pageant, it was to be his first major televised performance.

Many of the contestants and their families were attacked by Mr. Trump. They were told their ancestors were rapists, criminals, drug users or drug lords. He attacked more than 54 million residents and citizens by talking about Mexicans, Central Americans and South Americans. In his view, we are the scum of the earth.

You, the contestants and sponsors, have a great opportunity to stand up for the values of the real America. Demand that Mr. Trump steps away from your organization. You are not Trump. You do not need a dark cloud of hate over you. This is not why you put in so much work and sacrifice.

We are asking for the cancellation of the transmission on TV of everything Trump as a consequence of his actions. Mr. Trump is fully responsible for it. It is painful for me as well, but if we take away an opportunity for Mr. Trump to make a financial gain, he will move on from this organization and other projects. Change is not always easy, but please, join us. Stand up for what is right. Show the Hispanic community that it matters, that it has a voice and that you are listening.

Thank you in advance.
