WHAT CAN BE DONE NOW that they passed ZTA 19-01 ??!!

WHAT CAN BE DONE…

1. You can still sign the petition at change.org, which is now up to 1400 signatures! "Protect Single Family Home Zoning in Mont Co MD"

2. More importantly you can contact YOUR Council member AND you MUST CONTACT ALL 4 At-large Councilmembers (REIMER) And Council President Nancy Navarro to tell them of your opposition to these detached ADUs. 

3. ATTEND the next public hearing  tentatively scheduled for Tues Sept 10 (on a work day at 1:30 pm, of course) for the companion legislation Bill 22-19. It is supposed to at least require the owner LIVE IN either the principle house or the ADU. Keep a CLOSE EYE on this bill!! 

4. You must ASK the council members:
- HOW can they assure us that they can and WILL INSPECT & ENFORCE owner-occupancy??
- Since no limit on number of child occupants, WHO will track the impact to schools and WHAT will they DO about it??
- how will they gauge the effectiveness of this to solve the affordable housing issue — the supposed REASON this was done in the first place?

Lastly…..

5. Create an HOA in your neighborhood that will disallow ADUs
(As frequently happens with laws like this - the well-off and well-connected will be able to insulate themselves from it while those who are not, won’t be able to.) Let's see if fights break out between neighbors over this! And let's see if this makes the county MORE UNITED or MORE DIVIDED???
