1st of February 2018 THE DA BETRAYS ITS VOTERS IN CAPE TOWN BY INSTRUCTING ITS COUNCILLORS TO VOTE WITH THE ANC TO OUST MAYOR PATRICIA DE LILLE Dear supporters of this petition Thank you for your continued support. Our petition now stands at 1,421 supporters and growing each day. We, the voters of Cape Town, never thought that we would see the day that the Federal Executive of the DA would instruct its councillors in the City of Cape Town to vote in support of the ANC’s motion of no confidence to oust Mayor Patricia De Lille. The ANC withdrew their motion of no confidence in De Lille, not because they planned it at first, but because they wanted to frustrate the plans of the DA to use an ANC motion to oust De Lille. How bizarre this must be for us as voters, who voted for the DA and Patricia De Lille as executive mayor, to now experience this ‘comedy’ of political errors. The DA plots to remove De Lille as mayor and the ANC (perhaps inadvertently) blocks the DA from doing so. Thulani Gqirana, a journalist for The Drum writes the following on 31st January 2018: ‘It’s official. The Democratic Alliance in Cape Town has been given the go-ahead to table a motion of no confidence in Mayor Patricia de Lille. The ANC, on the other hand, has decided to withdraw their motion of no confidence against De Lille which was due to be debated in council today (Wednesday, January 31). This after the DA caucus voted to table a motion of no confidence against her on Thursday, January 25. At the time, 84 councillors had voted in favour of the motion and 59 voting against. DA leader Bonginkosi Madikizela on Wednesday said the Federal Executive has authorized them to lodge the motion. “The FedEx has thus authorized the caucus - which has already expressed its lack of confidence in the Mayor by a way of a caucus vote - the right to support the ANC’s motion. While this is an unprecedented move, the ANC correctly in its motion details many, but not all, of the maladministration that the Mayor is responsible for.” The ANC had already tabled a motion of no confidence in De Lille, due for debate on Wednesday. “The FedEx has taken this step on the basis that the caucus and the Party has too lost faith in her leadership. It is therefore in the best interests of the people of Cape Town and good governance – given the threat that Patricia de Lille poses to both – that we have no choice but to remove her as the Mayor. “This is a demonstration of the fact that we are able to rise above narrow party-political interests and to serve the democratic project in South Africa,” Madikizela said.’ WHAT A LOT OF HOGWASH! THE DA SAYS IT IS ‘IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE OF CAPE TOWN AND GOOD GOVERNANCE’ THAT MAYOR DE LILLE MUST BE REMOVED? NO, IT IS NOT! THE DA HAS A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE 2019 NATIONAL ELECTIONS AND PATRICIA DE LILLE HAS BECOME THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB AFTER THE DA HAS USED HER TO WIN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN 2016 TO WIN THE WESTERN CAPE AND THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN. THE DA IS NOT PLANNING TO MAKE MADIKIZELA THE PREMIER OF THE WESTERN CAPE IN 2019 BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOMEONE ELSE IN MIND (THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN INFORMED, KNOW WHO THAT IS, OF COURSE). BUT BECAUSE MADIKIZELA IS THE LEADER OF THE DA IN THE WESTERN CAPE (NOT VOTED BY US, BUT BY DA MEMBERS ONLY), THE DA MUST OFFER HIM A SUBSTANTIAL PUBLIC POSITION TO APPEASE HIM. SO THE DA IS PLANNING TO OFFER THE POSITION OF EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF CAPE TOWN TO MADIKIZELA TO APPEASE HIM. BUT DE LILLE IS IN THE WAY, AND SHE MUST BE REMOVED BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE, EVEN IF IT MEANS THROWING HER UNDER THE BUS, BY SUPPORTING AN ANC MOTION OF NO CONFIDENCE IN HER. CAPE TOWN VOTERS, PLEASE NOTE THE INTERNAL INVESTIGATION BY THE DA IN DE LILLE HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED AND SHE HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO DEFEND HERSELF AGAINST THE ALLEGATIONS. As voters, we were made to believe that the DA is the only effective opposition against the ANC in the Western Cape. How can the DA claim that if they are prepared to vote with the ANC to oust an Executive Mayor that has been duly elected by the voters of Cape Town (who was strongly endorsed by the DA in 2016)? IF THE DA PROCEEDS WITH THEIR VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN MAYOR DE LILLE IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF CAPE TOWN, WE AS VOTERS, WILL HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE THAN TO PLACE OUR TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN ANOTHER OPPOSITION PARTY IN 2019. https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/Politics/da-tables-a-motion-of-no-confidence-against-mayor-patricia-de-lille-20180131#cxrecs_s https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/anc-withdraws-motion-of-no-confidence-in-de-lille-20180131 https://mg.co.za/article/2018-01-31-da-to-go-ahead-with-motion-of-no-confidence-in-de-lille-without-the-anc http://ewn.co.za/2018/01/31/patricia-de-lille-defends-her-name-on-twitter
