Many have paid their dept to society, time served for years of incarceration. I brought to the table an idea. Addicts are not comming in volunteerly too in and out patient facilities, most are court ordered. As well, doing outreach as licensed therapist on the streets and schools is not going to well. Hey , why not evaluate and hire at min wage an x- convict who had many years to re-evaluate his own life on his or her faults and take along one with a licensed therapist into the streets or school ( making sure x- convict is sincere and clean by testing), and see if we get better results doing outreach. I myself have gone doing outreach and tried this method and got positive results. More tend to listen and open up when an individual from past penal institutional experience tags along and helps. Many were incarcerated due to substance abuse issues and are ready to contribute to society in a positive way. Let's utilize them , they want to help, I know because they have been offering. I brought this to a.big meeting with no response. Just an idea ! We must resort to getting to their level and stop looking down on them , but look them in the eye as rehabilitated equals so they themselves won't regress and work against us. Strict evaluation on candidates is essential , surly there will be some who qualify.
