Subject: 【Notice】Amazon should stop selling Milwaukee gloves produced by my husband and other prisoners of consciences as slave labor

Hi Andy,
How are you doing?

This letter is for your urgent attention. After two letters sent to the Amazon team, and no actions taken in the past 2 weeks. I decided to write an email directly to you.

I'm Mindy, Co-Founder of a startup. And also an E-Commerce veteran.

But today I write this email for my husband. I want to notice you the Milwaukee gloves selling on Amazon are produced by Chinese political prisoners as slave labor.

Brand Name: Milwaukee

Evidences:

My husband Cheng Yuan is a great and famous Chinese human rights activist who has been arbitrarily detained in China for 1200 days,  and currently he is working as a slave labor of Milwaukee Tools company in Chishan prison, Hunan province, China.

Recently released prisoners testifies that Milwaukee Tool uses Chinese prisoners of conscience as slave labor in China.

Several months ago, some prisoners released from Chishan prison, Hunan Province, China testified they worked as slave laborers for Milwaukee Tool Company while incarcerated. One of the former prisoners is Taiwanese Lee Mingche, a human rights activist who was detained in Hunan Chishan prison and released in April 2022 and sent back to Taiwan. Besides Lee Mingche, other prisoners from Chishan prison have also verified his claims.

4800~14400 pairs of Milwaukee gloves are produced in Hunan Chishan prison daily The working conditions which no doubt is slave labor:

  • 13~15 hours of work time everyday.
  • Only 4 days off over the course of a full year.
  • Monthly pay: $13.8 (100RMB). The pay is 2% of a Chinese worker in a factory, and 0.2% of a worker in the United States.
  • There is a Quality Control manager, who’s surname is Liu, who frequently asks the prison guards to beat prisoners when they can’t meet their quota, or when there are quality issues.
  • No protective measures at all. They didn’t even get any protective masks. Hazardous materials and harmful air conditions lead to lifelong health issues for the prisoners.

I believe selling products produced by slave labor are harmful for Amazon's reputation. So I sincerely notice you and hope Amazon could take the right decision and stop selling these products ASAP.

I have found lawyers in the US in the past two weeks and I'm ready to sue Milwaukee Tool soon, if Amazon doesn't take any action, I reserve my rights to sue Amazon along with Milwaukee Tool based on US law.

Any human with conscience should say NO to slave labor. Isn't it?

Pls stand with me.

Best,
Mindy Shi
