Update: Big Steps in the Right Direction
Louisiana’s GOP just put wrongful UCMJ convictions on the record. Now we need every state—and Congress—to follow.
Update
On August 15, 2026, the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee adopted, in full session, a resolution titled To Defend the Honor of America’s War Fighters and Secure Justice for the Wrongfully Accused Under the UCMJ.
This is not a press release. It is an official action of a state party’s governing body. The adopted text is public.
The resolution says innocent and wrongfully accused service members must not be sacrificed to politics, media pressure, or prosecution metrics. It names Navy Commander Arvis Owens and “other veterans across the services” who have publicly asserted false accusation and wrongful conviction under the UCMJ. It calls on Congress to create an independent Military Innocence and Conviction Integrity Review Board, restore due process (including unanimous verdicts for serious offenses and full access to exculpatory evidence), end quota-style conviction counts, support targeted clemency, and open a path to restoration of rank, pay, benefits, and records for the exonerated.
That was the right move. It cannot stay a Louisiana Republican document.
Wrongful conviction is not a party problem. Command pressure does not check a voter file. A sailor in Texas and a commander in Louisiana can be crushed by the same system. Democrats who stand with genuine victims and Republicans who stand with the warrior class have the same duty: a process that can tell the difference between guilt and a quota.
We are calling on Texas’s congressional leadership to follow suit—and on the full United States House and Senate to get on board.
What we need you to do
1. Read the adopted resolution.
2. Find your own House member and two senators.
3. Send them the resolution and ask them to cosponsor companion legislation for a military innocence/conviction-integrity review board, UCMJ due-process reform, an end to metric-driven prosecutions, and restoration for the exonerated.
4. Share this update. One state party has spoken. The country has not—yet.
