Over the next 10 years:
1. Our lifestyles must change rapidly: less air travel, less ‘over-consumption’ of everything, less meat consumed, recycling becomes a way of life, we get used to paying more for carbon-intensive goods.
2. Government grants are provided to enable homes and buildings to transition to heat pumps, improved insulation, high-efficiency appliances and use of ‘smart’ technology to optimise energy consumption.
3. New regulatory energy standards are implemented for all new building stock.
4. All Industry, Commerce and Business is compelled to embark on an aggressive decarbonisation strategy backed by incentives and supported by advances in low-carbon technology in key industrial processes. This includes all supply chain, procurement, investment, operational, disposal and storage phases.
5. All power is derived from renewable sources.
6. Sufficient renewable energy is also produced from biomass for synthetic fuels and hydrogen to provide a continuous energy supply and to support industry, heavy transportation and aviation.
7. A true understanding of the optimal use and management of the entire land surface to bring about a decarbonised future is established through science.
8. Land use is transformed through incentives and legislation, through better agricultural practice, increased forestation, maintenance of peatland, less animal farming and use of land for biomass production.
9. Transportation is completely de-carbonised through electrification and use of synthetic fuels and hydrogen.
10. We pay more for carbon-intensive imported goods so that we don’t ignore the huge impact of our imports on the rest of the world.
