Great letter in today's Herald-Times from Angela Lexmond! Have you written your letter yet? Review School Board Districts To the editor: Lunch shaming and the busing crisis have captured the attention of the public and effectively mobilized concerned parents to impact school district policy. Well, I’d like to mention an issue that is not going to grab any headlines, but certainly matters in a thriving community that takes pride in its public education system and its participation in a representative democracy. Did you know that the current boundaries used for fielding candidates to run for the school board represent very unbalanced zones population wise? The largest school board seat zone represents more than twice the citizens of the smallest. Did you know our system for selecting school board members and the boundaries within the county that each member represents hasn’t been revisited since 1996? The current school board should make it part of its business to look at how well our election procedures and board seat boundaries reflect a democratic process and encourage participation. Please join me in asking them to do so. To find out how, simply send an email to EducationalEquityIN@gmail.com. Angela Lexmond Bloomington
