Dear all, Last week we were informed by the LLDC that it will not bring to committee this month the decision about the fate of the 4 factories in the vicinity of the Olympic Park. Instead, they've chosen to push back the decision date to October 25th. This may look like a "win", but it's not - it's simply the LLDC realising that they might lose the vote on the 27th, and pushing it back in order to regroup and get it passed in October. The sub-standard level of the cumulative reports submitted by the applicants to support this infamy, as well as the questionable decision by LLDC not to demand that the applicants provide an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report, alongside the countless objections submitted by citizens, developers, residents associations, boroughs, and agencies have got them to realise that agreeing to these proposals may create a legal liability and a political blunder, and the next 30 days will no doubt see many LLDC functionaries in legal and PR consultations and frantically trying to "preen" those awful proposals. We must ensure that we can fight back in 3-4 weeks’ time when they push them back to committee revised, and if necessary take this issue to the relevant courts. For this purpose, we've started the Olympic Legacy Protection Fund: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/olympic-legacy-protection-fund, whose entire proceeds will go towards paying for legal and planning fees associated with keeping the Olympic Park and the neighbourhoods around it safe from bad planning decisions. We will also be organising a massive fundraising party very soon, and will keep you all updated with the details. The residents of East London and the area – not the factory owners and developers - must be the number 1 priority for decision makers, even and perhaps more so when they're un-elected! I want to personally ensure everyone that all of us campaigners will remain 100% pro bono volunteers, and that not a penny will be spent on us. But please be aware that EVERY PENNY COUNTS, as the LLDC has considerably more resources than us, including in-house legal representation. Please contribute as much as you can, and remember - if you live in East London, this is an investment in your health and future, pure and simple! Sincerely, Hanan
