Thank you all for putting pressure on our representatives to fix this issue. I intentionally left the petition opened for a while in the event the change was short-lived but it looks like except for the occasional noisy Saturday night, Steinway (at least south of Broadway) has been tamed, or out-of-the-hood visitors have moved to new grounds. Either way, it’s a victory for those of us who want an Astoria for families. Now someone may want to start a new petition to put pressure on our precinct and mayor to keep our streets safe. Yes, it’s possible to be safe without profiling, stop and frisk, or shooting first. I would suggest asking for an english style “constable”, a beat cop that would know the residents and could advise the precinct before their resort to force in sticky situations. Anyone?
