Oh...you thought this petition was over after the latest Travis Scott news?? Remember, nothing has been confirmed by anyone yet...so this petition still stands until further notice.
What has been confirmed, however, is that Cardi B will not perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. After a report saying she was "holding out for a $1 million fee" to perform, her rep finally addressed Cardi B's side saying she was never formally offered anything, and that she won't perform due to Kaepernick's ban. Besides, she's already performing that weekend with Bruno Mars.
Here's her rep's full statement:
“The rumor circulating that [Cardi B] wants a million dollars and she wants her own set is false. There was never a firm offer to begin with for a performance. There [were] talks about it, but she was not particularly interested in participating because of how she feels about Colin Kaepernick and the whole movement . . . But again, there was never a solid offer for her to say yes or no to regarding the Super Bowl. She is already confirmed to do a set with Bruno Mars that weekend.”
So that's a victory. It's also now clear what performing on that Super Bowl stage represents. I know your minds may be focused on Travis Scott, but once again nothing has been confirmed. Travis Scott has received considerable backlash after the news came out (I tried to warn him). Hopefully he will do what's best and still back out.
However, our focus is still for the original performers, Maroon 5, to step down. Even if Travis Scott doesn't perform, Maroon 5 will look for someone else. Maroon 5 should do what's best for them at this moment and not help the NFL with their ratings. It's not a white/black thing ... it's a human rights issue.
Maroon 5 also shouldn't worry about "who's going to perform". The NFL made this bed by banning Kaepernick, so they should deal with the consequences for their actions. It's on them!
Kaepernick took a knee to protest the killings of unarmed people of color in the hands of police. The NFL owners only care about ratings, so they banned him because he was "a distraction". Performing on that Super Bowl stage helps NFL owners make more money due to high ratings. That's why we're asking Maroon 5 to not perform.
Anyone who performs on that Super Bowl stage sides with the NFL and their treatment of Kaepernick. Simple as that.
So we'll see what happens. Don't forget to share this petition, and happy holidays!
