Hello fellow supporters!
Today at 12:00 Perth time, we attended Parliament and met with Pierre Yang from the MLC.
On the steps of the house, I handed him 2 sleeves with 1031 signatures. 522 on paper and 509 online.
This petition will be formally tabled tomorrow 12/11/2020 at 10am live streaming on parliament.wa.gov.au
(under the tab watch assembly live upper council)
I have been advised that whilst we have a good standing online, the paper form is what will be acknowledged with reference to the weight of total signatures.
I have decided to keep the online petition going and not let legalities stop the overall awareness and goal of making this area safer for the community.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me and the community of SPEARWOOD!!!
Unfortunately it does not stop here,
When this journey first started I made the commitment to never give up until all the issues of this area were addressed, the pedestrian crossing, the fencing, the uneven road surfaces, the dilapidated signage, the inadequate lighting, and really importantly,
The commemoration of the people who lost their lives here.
Some positive things to consider are, we have been told even though it is being tabled, we are within our rights to continue lobbying and gathering signatures. Being addressed to the upper legislative council has worked in our favour as they won’t shut down at the end of November but continue into May 2021.
The advice given though it’s intention was to encourage, has highlighted the fact that basically I am asked to continue begging anyone that will listen to do the right thing. I came away not feeling happy with what I had achieved so far, I came away feeling quite SAD
You would think a 65 yr old pedestrian tripping over and being crushed to death 1 year ago would have been enough.
So here I am, begging everyone and anyone who has taken the time to stop and read.
Please continue to share this petition in order to have the government make this area safer once and for all.
