Streamlined petition wording coming shortly - message remains the same

Hi folks, as you may have read I am working with the CAAS team to implement a 3 pronged approach with this petition. To help bolster the support of this petition we are issuing a paper version for those that do not have internet access / email. Also we are replicating this as an e-petition via the Federal Government website to directly target the Transport Minister via the House of Commons. There is a 250 word limit for the e-petition on the Parliamentary / Government of Canada website. Therefore to keep all three petitions (change.org, paper & government) versions aligned so they viewed as one, we are crisping up the wording (not the message) here to match the 250 word version being submitted to the House of Commons. Here is the updating wording so you can be assured the original message remains fully intact The communities of Markland Wood, Rockwood, Alderwood, Long Branch and Fleetwood Village are suffering as the GTAA is moving full steam ahead with a plan to dramatically increase flights and profits by changing the use of the North/South (N/S) runways at Pearson to what equates to "regular" use runways. When the N/S runways were first constructed, the Transport Minister at the time, issued guidelines regulating their occasional use; special weather conditions, emergency circumstances and no night flights. Zoning for the affected communities long predated the existence of the N/S runways. The GTAA is taking it upon itself to break this longstanding agreement. If successful, the above communities will be negatively impacted by pollution and property values. The current lease agreement between Transport Canada (TC) and the GTAA states that GTAA must obtain TC’s approval prior to implementing any changes to runway usage. The Transport Minister has distanced himself from this accountability, claiming that he and his office will only engage if there is a safety concern. Sign this petition to tell Transport Minister Marc Garneau that there are real human health and safety concerns for everyone in these communities if the GTAA is left to self-manage.
