Australian Woman With Transplanted Kidney and No Soliris Has aHUS Relapse.

A year ago Debbie Basham, who had been waiting over a decade for a kidney transplant because the Australian government will not fund the drug Soliris that will protect the transplanted kidney, finally decided to risk having a kidney transplant without Soliris. But now her aHUS has returned. She has been given Soliris now but the worry is if it is too late. It's so important to start this drug just prior to the transplant. The following is a post Debbie made on Feb. 17, 2017: "Just wanted to put a quick message on Facebook to let everyone know what is happening. I have been having hiccups with my new kidney for a few months. After many blood tests, treatments and three biopsies we now know my ahus has returned. Like last time it took a while to show up even though I had my suspicions. It has been a little surreal to be given my first dose of soliris yesterday after all kerri and i have been through for the last 4 years helping to fight to have the drug available for all our ahus patients. I thank her and everyone involved in our continued fight and especially our renal team here in cairns. They were AMAZING. 24 hour turnaround. My case just gives more weight to our case that transplant patients should have access immediately. I am confident the drug will stop the disease and should know in a few weeks."
