Today is Black Friday, which is a day that originated in Philadelphia back in the 1960’s. It caught on nationwide by the late 80’s. It largely came to be because retailers gained a profit the day after Thanksgiving after working at a year of loss. Philly called it Black Friday due to the chaos. Though it seems a little chaotic for election day as it’s not a federal Holiday. Black Friday is not a federal holiday but state governments could give employees of the state government the day off. Black Friday is more of the day where a lot of stuff is on sale and people could get their Christmas shopping done.
Native American Heritage Day is also celebrated on the day after Thanksgiving. It is meant to help celebrate the contributions of Native Americans. The entire month is Native American Heritage Month. President Barack Obama passed this day as Native American Heritage Day in 2009.
Today is also Chadwick Boseman’s and Don Cheadle’s birthdays. Boseman is known for playing T’Challa/Black Panther in the MCU and Cheadle plays James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes/War Machine. Boseman also played James Brown in the biopic Get On Up, Jackie Brown in his biopic 42, and Andre Davis in 21 Bridges. Cheadle also played Paul Rusesabagina in the biopic Hotel Rwanda and Marty Kaan in House of Lies. Cheadle had guest starred on the Simpsons as Brother Faith.
