Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday. He was born on this day in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He is well known for his civil rights protests where he aimed to overturn the laws in the south that were against black people's rights. Civil rights was a big part of U.S. history and good to cover it. People of color didn't always have the same amount of rights as white people and it could be a good part of our history to learn that they had to fight for rights. MLK day is Monday, January 20, of which is the same day as Trump's second inauguration. I feel like the civil rights movement of MLK could be an inspiring story for us for trying to lower the voting age. We shouldn't give up. We should fight for what we believe in. Obviously fight in a more metaphorical sense as MLK took Gandhi's non-violence route.
Today is also Steve Harvey's birthday. He was born on this day in 1957 in Welch, West Virginia. He is likely most well known for being the host of Family Feud since 2010. He also hosts Celebrity Family Feud (a version of family feud where celebrities compete to win money for their favorite charity) and Family Feud Africa (the South African version of Family Feud). He had written 4 books. Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man in 2009; Straight Talk, No Chaser in 2010; Act like a Success in 2014; and Jump, Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance. Harvey is definitely a face of American Culture and definitely someone to talk about when it comes to a petition about the United States. February is Black History Month and we're starting on it a little early.
Remember that like any other day, today is like any other day being a good time where we could do as much as we can to help get more signatures. I feel like this petition gets signatures much slower than my other petition about making election day a federal holiday. I find both go hand in hand as both could help get our youth to be more involved in politics and develop the skills they could have for the rest of their lives
