The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (H.E.L.P.) Committee can basically make the FDA grant Accelerated Approval Program. Therefore, I’ve made it really easy for you to call and email the U.S. Senators who sit on this committee. I’ve provided their phone numbers and easy links to their contact pages. If you decide to call, you should ask to speak with the Senator's Health Legislative Assistant (HLA) and get that person's name. If you’re a non-U.S. citizen: It's my understanding that the senators' contact forms require the sender to have a U.S. residential (or military) address. You won't be able to email them. If you are a U.S. citizen -- you have to put in extra effort to help those in other countries -- who are a huge part of this campaign. TO MAXIMIZE THE IMPACT PLEASE PROCEED AS FOLLOWS: 1) First, call or email the two top-ranking senators on HELP Committee and Senator Rand, who has expressed interest in our campaign: • TN-Lamar Alexander (R) - Chairman • WA-Patty Murray (D)- Ranking Member • KY Paul Rand (R) PHONE NUMBERS & CONTACT LINKS APPEAR BELOW 2) Second, if a senator from your home state is on the list, call or email them next. If you decide to call, ask to speak with the Senator's Health Legislative Assistant (HLA). By targeting these three top senators on the H.E.L.P. Committee we can make sure the most influential senators are getting the bulk of our communications. (If your state doesn't have a senator on this committee, don't worry. Congressional Committees can not have representatives from each and every state). Warmest regards, Nick gm6nick@gmail.com When contacting senators: 1) Give them your name and state whether you are a person with ALS, know someone with ALS, or are a supporter of the ALS Community. Share your personal story or thoughts. 2) Tell them you support the petition for Accelerated Approval of Genervon's GM604. Provide the link to the petition and mention the number of signatures at the time you are contacting the senator. (Here's that link: https://www.change.org/p/janet-woodcock-m-d-fda-accelerated-approval-of-genervon-s-gm604-for-use-in-als 3) Senators' and their Health Legislative Assistants may say that Congress cannot promote a specific new drug that comes to the FDA for approval. While they may not promote a specific new drug, they can certainly inquire about the process for that drug. If you call (or in your email), express your desire for the Senator to contact the FDA saying they want to ensure that GM604 is given full and fair consideration for the Accelerated Approval Program. Tell the Senators (or their Health Legislative Assistant) that our campaign is about confronting the fact that no new drugs have been made available for people with ALS in the past 20 years and that ALS meets all the criteria for the Accelerated Approval Program. If you are familiar with the "Right -to-Try" legislation make it known that this is exactly what our campaign is all about. -- getting new drugs to people with a terminal illness who have no other options. 4) Tell them you would like a response to your request.
