Hi Everyone-
First: thank you all for signing this petition and sharing it across the country. We have 602 signatures! We’re aiming for 1,000 before we close the petition and get it to John Oliver/Last Week Tonight. Of course, if we get more signatures it would be fantastic.
Second: for those of you following Massachusetts Senators Warren and Markey's demands that FERC provide answers regarding third party contractor conflicts of interest on the Spectra Energy AIM project, there has been a new story just breaking today.
Wait. What’s this? There’s proof FERC has routinely hired third party contractors to review the very projects that their companies would benefit monetarily from? YES.
A little background: Investigative reporter Itai Vardi of DeSmogBlog has reported about FERC's third party contractor conflict of interest since May 2016. Shortly after Mr. Vardi’s first story, his work caught the attention of Senators Warren and Markey. They quoted Mr. Vardi’s findings in a strongly worded letter to FERC demanding answers about the conflicts. Of course, FERC denies any wrongdoing. You can see all of Mr. Vardi’s work (and the newest story) here: http://www.desmogblog.com/user/25839
We don’t know about you, but seeing even more evidence FERC’s outrageously blithe and criminal behavior is reenergizing us to try harder to get more signatures. Can we count on you all to keep sharing, and to possibly “promote” this petition on Change.org? Four supporters have done so already and it seems to be the most effective way to raise awareness. A huge thank you to whomever did our first petition promotion- it really helped zoom us to where we are now.
Thank you all!
