Hello!  You are receiving this communication because you signed the petition to push back the start date of Lakewood Public Schools! Thank you! I believe negotiations involving the school start date will begin soon so it’s time to make sure our voices are heard! I have two asks of you:

Please send an email to the following 9 addresses offering your support for the start date getting pushed back to after Labor Day. There is a sample letter below. Feel free to use that or create one of your own! (Please remember to be kind and respectful!) I am including email addresses for the Superintendent as well as all Board Members below. 

Join us at the next Board Meeting this upcoming Monday Dec 12th at 7 pm in the HS Media Center. This is simple and all you have to do is sit in the audience! We are hoping to have a strong showing! We are also hoping to have a few people willing to stand up and speak briefly and respectfully regarding why they would like the start date to get pushed back. If you feel so inclined that would be great! Please let me know and I will make sure you are included! (Or you can come a few minutes early and Connie Sines will be there to take your info so you can speak.)

Subject Line: Please Push LPS Start Date Back!

Please consider supporting pushing back the start date of Lakewood Public Schools to after Labor Day. We feel school is important, but so is unstructured play, outdoor time, and activities with siblings…all things that are prime activities during Michigan summers. These activities and many others are much more difficult when school starts back up and during Michigan winters. We want August reclaimed for our children’s summer. There are over 650 people that have signed our petition supporting this move. Perhaps we could have slightly longer school days, or fewer breaks and half days throughout the year. (Many of which create childcare challenges for parents.) Please take this into account when helping to make decisions regarding this topic! We appreciate all that you do!
