VG247 refuses to allow me a chance to respond

Mark Kern
Irvine, CA

25 févr. 2015 — After publisher of VG247.com, Patrick Garratt, published an article attacking this petition and those who dare sign it, I politely asked for a chance to respond to his allegations...and waited...and waited. After 4-5 days waiting, tweeting, and three e-mails later I finally got a response.

He has refused. Completely and inexplicably:

"This isn't something we're interested in, thank you. We very rarely have guest posters writing for VG247."

This is exaclty the opposite of the kind of open discourse in the the press that we need to fix gaming. This myopic, one-sided view of events where the press gets to call petitions of change "ill-informed idiots" (Pat's very words), and then shuts down any chance of a response, is exactly the type of Yellow Journalism we need to avoid.

If this galls you as much as it does me, pls sign this peition and I'll add VG247 to the list of those who will recive it.

My response to Pat's shutdown is below. I will post any reply he has:

Patrick:

This is an important issue in gaming. Part of healing this rift will be to allow the discourse of moderates. My gaming accomplishments and authorship credentials are substantial. My newsworthiness in terms of generating traffic for your site is also substantial.

I see this as a win for everyone and a chance to start setting things right. Furthermore, its only fair that the subject (i.e. myself) of an critical editorial gets a chance to respond to implications you make in your article...usually this is in the form of allowing the subject to post a long form "letter to the editor." It's only good journalism, especially since you never reached out to me for comment before publishing your article about me.

You said you would not censor or blacklist me or any other developer who signs the petition. So, when do I get to speak?

Please keep in mind that I will be publishing your response to this letter. My petitioners will want to know. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mark Kern
