Canada's most popular classifieds website is again under pressure to prohibit the sale of household pets as TELUS, one of the largest telecommunication providers, has agreed to stop all paid advertising on Kijiji Canada.
I have received correspondence from TELUS this week confirming the company’s support for my national campaign. TELUS’ President and CEO Darren Entwistle wrote: “Our TELUS team is pleased to support your admirable efforts to ensure the health and well-being of animals. [...] I would like to personally pledge our commitment to you that TELUS has paused all paid advertising on Kijiji Canada until action is taken to prohibit the sale of household pets. We are doing so in alignment with TELUS’ commitment to make the future friendly for all… including our cherished pets.”
TELUS joins the ranks of other major corporations such as TD Bank, WestJet, Royal Bank of Canada, Toyota Canada, Tangerine Bank, National Bank of Canada and shopping site Zulily which have all pulled their ads from Kijiji’s pet sale pages.
This recent development is just the latest example of Canadian corporations and their consumers prioritizing animal welfare over profit. When will Kijiji Canada do the same?
Together we can show them that we won’t give up. Please continue to share the petition with your network on social media. Are there other companies you’d like to see pull their ads from Kijiji Canada? Let me know and tag them on social media, encouraging them to get on board!
Thank you again for your support.
