Dear petition signers,

Thank you so much for your support. With over 370 signatures, we have sent a message that short-term rentals need to be regulated in Ketchum.

With the election only 4 days away, some candidates have begun paying lip-service to this problem, but only one candidate for Ketchum Mayor has committed to aggressively tackling this issue by limiting short-term rentals, Perry Boyle.

On short-term rentals, he plans to:

  • Limit the number of short-term rentals like Sandpoint Idaho, with an exemption for primary residences
  • Increase the tax collected by the City on STRs from 3% to 12%, to invest in Locals First Housing
  • Increase City revenue from STRs by auctioning off short-term rental permits and investing proceeds in Locals First Housing
  • Hold short-term rental businesses that compete with hotels to same safety standards as hotels

On affordable housing, he plans to:

  • Use Ketchum housing funds to help local workers with down payments, in exchange for making the unit deed restricted ensuring it will only ever be occupied by a Ketchum worker
  • Use Ketchum housing funds to pay local landlords to make units available at affordable rates for local workers
  • Raise the “in lieu of fee” to incentivize developers to include affordable housing in new developments

Ketchum's housing crisis stems not only from a limited supply of housing, but also insatiable demand. In order to protect workforce housing, we need solutions that address the demand side, by creating a pool of housing stock that can only be accessed by local workers, in addition to building more affordable housing. Perry understands this and has solutions that can be implemented in a matter of months helping everyone from low-income to middle-income locals.

Regardless of what happens Nov. 2nd, we will continue pushing our local leaders to take this issue seriously. Add your voice, write to your city council, and GO VOTE!
