A retired teacher cold called every Ken Buck on the internet and finally was able to contact me. We had a very nice informative conversation regarding COLA. I explained how Senate Bill S260 is never going to make it to the committee , even with nearly 50% of the Senate sponsoring the bill to reinstate COLA for all. Furthermore, I also explained to her how Chapter 78 and PFRS Chapter 55 differ. Maryann decided to contact legislators and write a letters to the paper. Her story made it!
Folks, we can all be proactive like MaryAnn. I give her a lot of credit! ���. Keep the pressure on your legislators, unions, and make your voice heard. Inform active members how important COLA is to their future and how they should take this dire matter to their Unions. After all, you never know when it will be your last day of your career. Some retirees have never received their first COLA since 2009. After 14 years and with record high inflation, this is not acceptable! Especially, now knowing that our COLA comes from the Pension Adjustment Act! It’s beyond time we all just sit around and talk about it. Start making some noise, contact your legislators, write to your local paper and have your voices heard! If anyone has connections with major national media outlets, please let us know.
