Unfortunately, despite all our efforts, the developer won this battle.
After 30 years, Zumbro will be gone from Linden Hills, but not forgotten!
Going forward, what can we do to prevent more of the same?
1) Attend Linden Hills Neighborhood Council (LHNC) meetings for Zoning and Housing. Ask questions. Stay informed.
Learn who the developer "players" are - in this case it was John Gross, who has created some well-received spaces, but also has a history of removing historically significant places in Linden Hills.
2) Support efforts to help make Linden Hills a historic district, like other areas in Minneapolis such as St. Anthony Main. It may be our best hope, as it provides some restrictions around what developers can or cannot do. Write, call, connect with each other, ask the LHNC about this, post on social media.
3) Know that that sadly, the Linden Hills Small Area Plan does not apply at all anymore for zoning and development issues. The plan has been completely overridden by the Minneapolis 2040 Plan. If you want to know what's coming up for Linden Hills, read the 2040 Plan.
