Hi: It is a long time since many of you signed this petition. Thank you for doing this and thank you to each one who forwarded to others. Gord Johns the MP for the riding I am in, has sponsored a Canadian Government epetiton 696 for me. 696 will be presented to the Canadian Government if we gather 500 or more signatures over 120 days. It is available in French and English. Many of you have already signed it. For those of you who have not, please click the following pathway. https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-696 You need to be a Canadian citizen, but it does not matter your age. A 5 year old with an email can sign. After you sign, there will be a confirmation in your email box. Click it to affirm your signature. This is not about ransom being paid. It is about addressing the two coinages of terrorists gain through kidnappings: increasing money or terror power. Our Canadian Government has only recognized the money asset not the asset gained through brutality and terror displayed on videos on the internet. This was the big power grab for the Abu Saaf terrorists from Robert and John. Also, it asks the government to learn how to contact and maintain communications with terrorist groups through trained professionals. Finally it seeks training for the people who will be contacting the families. Holding the families in solitary confinement by admonishing them not to talk to anyone about the kidnappings was cruel. At a time they were adrift in pain and confusion they were cut off from support as well. Recent media series by Rosemary Barton CBC http://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/longform/kept-in-the-dark-canadian-hostages-ridsdel-hall-kidnapping and Michelle Shephard and Mitch Potter Toronto Star https://www.thestar.com/authors.potter_mitch.html uncovered the sad facts. Much more could have been done. As they interviewed families and previous kidnapped victims, along with government personnel previously involved in kidnappings a broader picture was unveiled. epetition 696 addresses the need for our government to improve its protocols around citizens being kidnapped. Thanks for signing. Lois Eaton https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-696
