I’d like to send a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to share their story after my last update email. Parents of children with disabilities talked about moments when their children were unfairly disciplined at school and many people with autism came forward to talk about their own negative experiences in school.
In particular, I loved reading comments from teachers who have had success integrating children on the spectrum into their classrooms. Here’s one from Kevin Bain:
“As a teacher and a father with a son with Autism this story really hits close to home. So many educators do not know how to manage kids with ASD, especially those that are heavy on the behavior reciprocity spectrum.
On the other side of the coin, teachers are expected to manage 35+ students in a classroom with no support from the administration. A student with ASD will not get the support needed to transition from one thing to another. School districts need to wake up and support teachers and students with disabilities. Less admin and more support in the classroom is of utmost importance to our children.”

Sharing our experiences is such an important step towards building a strong campaign and fostering solidarity. Thank you for standing with Kayleb. We are in this together.
Sincerely,
Morénike
