Dear friends, for I think of you all as friends now,
You are amazing. The #JusticeForKayleb petition has been up only 24 hours and we have nearly 1,500 signatures! Your support is greatly appreciated; thank you for caring about not only Kayleb and his family, but about others who have faced or may face similar injustice. Being on the autism spectrum, or being young, or being black, or whatever – one still deserves to be treated respectfully. "Disability, like race and gender, is a natural and normal part of the human experience that in no way diminishes a person's right to live a normal life and participate in mainstream activities." (GWU Professor Robert Silverstein)
Please keep sharing widely with friends, family, and on social media! We need to draw more attention to this issue; it is past time for these types of incidents to be put to an end!
Below is a message from Kayleb’s family followed by a message from a family friend:
“Thank you for all your support. This issue is about so more much than Kayleb, it's about all of our special needs children that are being treated unfairly by public schools and law enforcement agencies. My only hope is that this brings awareness. So that this will not happen to another child or adult with special needs.” –Stacey Doss, Kayleb’s mother
“My son and Kayleb are friends. I homeschool my son and they get the opportunity to play together often. Kayleb is mild mannered and there have been zero negative incidents on my watch. He shared his story with us today and you could tell that he is traumatized. Children need structure, guidance, nurturing as well as discipline. They do not need an adult intimidating them nor should excessive force be used; he's a child!!!! I am asking everyone to sign the petition; children need protection. Thanks.” -M.K., longtime friend of the family
