I wanted to update you on the latest developments in the fight for justice for Shanquella Robinson. As many of you know, the civil lawsuit brought by Sallamondra Robinson, Shanquella’s mother, continues in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.
What’s Happening?
Two of the named defendants, Alysse Hyatt and Wenter Donovan, have officially filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit against them, arguing that the case does not belong in a U.S. court. They claim that since the events occurred in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and because Mexican law governs the case, it should be handled in Mexico’s legal system rather than in North Carolina.
Their Arguments for Dismissal
1️⃣ Improper Venue – They argue that because the key witnesses (doctors, hotel staff, and others) are in Mexico, it would be difficult to litigate the case in the U.S. 2️⃣ Forum Non Conveniens – This is a legal principle that allows a court to dismiss a case if another location (in this case, Mexico) is deemed more appropriate for trial. 3️⃣ No Direct Involvement in the Fight – Their motion emphasizes that they were merely “bystanders” and did not participate in the physical altercation that led to Shanquella’s tragic death.
Why This Matters
This is yet another attempt by those involved to evade responsibility and avoid accountability. The fact remains that Shanquella was brutally attacked, left to die, and the people who traveled with her did nothing to help her. Instead, they lied to her family and tried to cover up the truth.
Their claim that the case should be moved to Mexico is deeply concerning. We know that Mexican authorities have not taken sufficient action, and shifting the case there could mean delays, lack of transparency, and ultimately, a lack of justice.
