Terminator 2: Judgment Day needs a true remastered Special Edition.

In 2019 a new Terminator film will come to theaters, ignoring all movies after James Cameron’s masterpiece Terminator 2: Judgment Day, starring Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, produced by James Cameron himself and directed by Tim Miller.

This would be the perfect opportunity for a true Terminator 2: Judgment Day Special Edition Blu-ray release. In 2017, after the theatrical release in 3D, a remastered Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc had been released. Unfortunately, the 3D master was used for all formats. For 3D conversions it is usual to remove the film grain, and so we now have an unappealing artificial picture quality on all new 2D releases.

Furthermore, there are color problems that need to be fixed like the blue lasers during the future battle, as the lasers should be pink. There is no problem with the overall color grading. The laser mistake only occurs in the opening sequence and does not reappear. It must be an error, as the laser color is already visibly pink in the concept art of both James Cameron Terminator films, the 4K remaster of The Terminator, and the previous home entertainment releases of T2. Rumor has it that a version without those errors does exist on iTunes.

Those are the most important suggestions, but there are other needful things like using the perfect sounding CDS mix of the theatrical releases, or doing a 4K restoration of the 1993 Special Edition scenes for a seamless viewing experience together with the theatrical footage, as James Cameron and his team did with the Blu-ray Disc of Aliens.

Summary of things to fix:
- Using the 4K transfer that was done before the 3D conversion, with all the film grain intact
- Fixing the color problems, e.g. the blue lasers during the future battle should be pink (https://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=11118&d2=11116&s1=109152&s2=109100&i=0&l=0)
- Fixing the blown out highlights (https://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=11116&d2=11118&s1=109101&s2=109154&i=1&l=0 https://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=11116&d2=11118&s1=109104&s2=109157&i=4&l=0)
- 4K remastering of the 1993 Special Edition footage
- Using the original CDS Cinema Digital Sound mix for both the English and German audio
- Putting all special features from laserdiscs and DVDs on a separate Blu-ray Disc as they did with Titanic and Avatar
- Include special digibook packaging with concept art illustrations, behind the scenes pictures and film stills
