John Garvey, President of the Catholic University of America supports our petition and sent a letter to Jacques Rogge and Sebastian Coe requesting a minute of silence this past Thursday, May 31, 2012. The letter begins: " I write to you from the Catholic Univeristy of America to urge you to consider an initiative to commemorate with a moment of silence the death of the eleven members of the Israeli Olympic team during the 1972 Munich Games. I learned of the initiative through a group of Sociology students at our Univeristy who encountered the tragic story of the massacre through a documentary called "Our Greatest Hopes Our Worst Fears, the Tragedy of the Munich Games". Saddened to discover that the IOC has never sponsored a moment of silence to remember the victims, the students initiated a campaign to encourage the IOC to honor the entreaties of the victims' families.
