A big THANK YOU to the Fitzwilton Hotel in Waterford for removing greyhound racing from its website.

The popular 4 star hotel deleted “a night at the dogs” from a list of activities on its Group Getaways page after greyhound racing's cruelty and killing were highlighted.

Also removed was a page publicising Kilcohan Park - a track where in the past five years alone, 74 greyhounds suffered injuries and 40 were killed by a track vet.

Fitzwilton Hotel is the latest in a growing list of hotels to reject greyhound racing. These include the Maldron Hotel in Limerick, Clayton Hotels, North Star Hotel (Dublin), Metropole Hotel Cork and Treacys Hotel Waterford.

The moves follow a decision by Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland to stop promoting greyhound racing due to fears that it damages Ireland's image as a tourist destination. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/ireland/shane-ross-immoral-dog-racing-will-deter-tourists-982nwhwb9

The horrors of greyhound racing were exposed in the award-winning "RTE Investigates: Greyhounds Running For Their Lives" documentary which revealed that around 6,000 dogs are killed every year simply because they are not fast enough to win races https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYTb2qBjlMM

Other companies that have been praised for rejecting cruel greyhound racing include Dublin Bus, Air France, Eir Sport, Lonely Planet, Tesco Ireland, Toyota Ireland, Electric Ireland, Applegreen, Groupon, Barry's Tea, FBD Insurance, Botanica International, Hyde Irish Whiskey, Thomas Cook/Jet Tours, Galway Crystal, Wilton Shopping Centre, Le Guide Irlande, Trip101, etc.

Thumbs up to Fitzwilton Hotel for its compassionate response. Find out more about the hotel and its current special offers at https://www.fitzwiltonhotel.ie/
