On Saturday July 16, Bulaq Abu al-Aila Misdemeanor Appeals Court ruled against Ahmed Naji’s motion for a stay of execution for the two-year prison sentence he received in February. The motion would have enabled Naji’s release pending his appeal before the Court of Cassation. As a result, Naji will continue to serve his two-year sentence until the time of his trial. The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy continues to express its solidarity with Naji and its condemnation of his sentence. TIMEP urges others to join the call for his freedom by signing its petition, which has been signed by nearly 9,000 supporters.
