Hello Catherine,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with Vancouver City Council regarding the intersection at Wallace Street and W 16th Avenue. We were saddened to hear of the serious injury involving a student at this location.

This intersection is part of our 2024 flashing beacons program and installation can be expected in early 2025. The pedestrian crossing time at Crown Street and W 16th Avenue will also be increased later this year.

The City is working with our partners at the VPD to gather more information about the incident. As with all collisions, staff will take any feedback received through the collision investigation and work with the VPD and ICBC to implement the changes to improve road safety. Pedestrian and road safety remain the City’s top transportation focus and our goal is to have zero traffic related fatalities and serious injuries.
