Update on Petition Status & Thank You

Thank you again to everyone who has taken the time to sign the petition. We are steadily building support.

Update on progress so far: Claire Dowler from CLFIP and I were given the opportunity to speak at the local July Council Meeting. Deputy Mayor Jayden Rivera put forward a motion for a report to consider allowing volunteers at the Campbelltown Animal Care Facility (ACF), with a specific focus on the possibility of a foster program. The motion also called for investigations into reopening the facility to the public and improving transparency for the public and rescue organisations regarding the animals held there. During our discussion, the need for more subsidised low-cost desexing was also raised, which provides a strong segue into taking this petition forward.

The ACF matters were raised because we need to optimise what the facility can achieve and support. The ACF is purpose-built to support companion animals in need across the Campbelltown community.

I am pleased to say that our speeches were very well received by the Mayor and Councillors. The motion to produce the report and provide the requested information was carried unanimously. The Mayor also expressed gratitude to both Claire and me for the work our respective teams perform.

With the new kitten season already taking hold, cats, kittens and newborns are already being found dumped. Desexing undesexed cats remains the most effective way to minimise suffering and reduce the impact of cats and kittens ending up on the streets.

We now need more signatures, comments and visible support for the petition so we can move forward before formally tabling it with recommendations and lobbying Councillors for a solution.
