Vintage Wine Estates, parent of Laetitia Winery, just sued Caltrans to stop the safety improvements at El Campo and US 101 that would have eliminated the death trap that killed our son Jordan Grant.
To be clear this suit is for the sole purpose of increasing their corporate profits from wine tasting customers by having these customers take unsafe left turns across US 101 (both before and after drinking wine at their winery).
Our son, Cal Poly Freshman Jordan Grant was needlessly killed at El Campo and 101, a death trap similar to Laetitia's and one crossing north from Laetitia, in October 2018 by a car making an unsafe left turn across US 101. This crossing and Laetitia's crossing and 2 others like it were identified as unsafe and funded to be closed in 2012, but in part due to threatened suits from Laetitia at the time, Caltrans and local governments backed off and did not make the median closures planned. Since our sons death, for the last seven months, we have pursued and obtained unanimous government approval of a partial closure at El Campo, Laetitia Winery and two other crossings. Caltrans was to start making the safety improvements in two days, on Monday May 13 but such changes are now on hold due to Vintage Wines profit grubbing lawsuit. Any delay in this safety project could mean the next Jordan will be needlessly killed or maimed at these crossings.
How you can help:
1. Boycott all wines and wine club memberships produced by Vintage Wine Estates. Including but not limited to Laetitia Winery, Layer Cake, No. 209 Gin, Game of Thrones Wine, - see full list of wines to boycott at vintagewineestates.com (there are many). Comment below or email me at jameskgrant2@gmail.com when you cancel a membership at one of their wineries and/or pledge to boycott their wines.
2. Call the CEO and Founder Pat Roney and Terry Wheatley, President (pictured above beside Jordan's Memorial at El Campo) to demand this irresponsible suit be dropped immediately, and let them know the blood of anyone hurt or killed at these crossings will be on their hands.
3. Go on Facebook pages for Vintage Wine Estates and their wines and demand publicly that they answer for this irresponsible lawsuit and let the world know that there is a boycott against all of their products.
4. Join us in picketing outside Laetitia winery to make sure their potential customers know what irresponsible greedy corporate profiteers are trying to sell them wine.
