Hello and I hope you are all having a great summer.
Unfortunately, after presenting concerns and the petition at Tabernacle's June BOE meeting, and then emailing the concerns presented to the BOE, the Board did not have any feedback or concern for the information provided. Thus far, they have ignored the teaching staff who voted no confidence last year as well as the 102 total parents who voiced concerns in June. If you would like a list of the concerns presented, please reach out to me.
I have reached out to them again a couple weeks ago concerning the gas leak that occurred in May, that was noticed 10 days prior to the school being evacuated (with a confirmed 2" pipe leak in the broiler room with an elevated reading in the school). After looking into the district policies concerning emergency protocols, the custodian who found the leak notified the facilities manager, who did not follow through per protocol in notifying the Superintendent and having the Fire Department or Gas Company respond to the school. As of today, even after putting every child and staff member at risk of serious injury, he is still employed. (I had requested and received all email & text communications concerning the gas leak via OPRA.)
In addition, it was brought to my attention that a bus driver actively joined in on the bullying of a student while another student recorded (The parent shared the video, emails from Shaun, and the apology letter with me). The bus driver wrote a pathetic excuse of an apology to the student and family, but remains employed. Actually, the district who promised she would no longer drive the student, broke their promise for a field trip. The student had to face her unexpectedly, leading to increased stress of the child.) This is the furthest a district can be from their supposed "No Bullying" policy. (Which according to the Vice Principal's report in June, there is not a problem within the district.)
I encourage you to write to the BOE, attend BOE meetings, and continue to voice your concerns about the mismanagement of the district under Shaun Banin's reign. The ones who suffer the most are our children and they only have us to protect them.
